Highlands Rewilding is a Scotland-based rewilding development company that is on a mission to make nature restoration an investable asset class by generating monetisable natural capital credits from large-scale habitat restoration and community regeneration projects.
The company operates an asset-light partnership model called Operating System Partnerships for Rewilding (OSPREY). Rather than buying land, Highlands Rewilding partners with landowners to fund the up-front rewilding work on their estates. In return, revenues generated from carbon and biodiversity credits are shared between the landowner and Highlands Rewilding.
Alongside its partnership model, Highlands Rewilding places strong emphasis on scientific rigour and data collection. The company has worked extensively with researchers and academic institutions to conduct peer-reviewed analysis and has built a proprietary baseline database across its sites. This approach assures its credits as high-integrity and low-risk within the market.
Highlands Rewilding currently manages 4 active sites and aims to scale to 40+ sites over the next 15 years. The investment will fund the operational delivery of existing OSPREY projects, continued scientific work, and will support the preparation for scaling the business model from 2027.
As with the previous Bunloit Estate investment opportunity, our specialist investors brought their sector expertise to the due diligence process, rigorously testing both the scientific foundations and the commercial scalability of the model. Our engagement will continue beyond the funding round, as we look forward to supporting the company as it enters its next phase of growth.
Jeremy Leggett, Founder of Highlands Rewilding, said:
“Rewilding doesn’t come with a handbook, which is why it was clear from the start that we needed to take a different approach. One that brings people, nature and profitability together rather than treating them as competing priorities. If we are serious about making restoration work at scale, it has to succeed ecologically, socially and economically at the same time. That belief has shaped our OSPREY model and the way we are building Highlands Rewilding.”
Cam Ross, CEO of Green Angel Ventures, said:
“Highlands Rewilding is building a very credible pathway for nature restoration to become a scalable and investable asset class. We have invested to back the experienced and talented team, and to ensure that our Green Angel Syndicate members and investor partners are able to take advantage of this emerging opportunity.”
