Green Angel Ventures co-leads $3 million follow-on investment for Edinburgh-based carbon sequestration innovator Carbogenics

19 January 2026

Carbogenics, a carbon sequestration company headquartered in Edinburgh, has secured $3 million in follow-on funding. The round was co-led by Green Angel Ventures and Dangerous Ventures, with participation from Old College Capital, Scottish Enterprise, and grants from Innovate UK, New Mexico Gas, and the New Mexico Government.

The company produces an advanced biochar-based additive called CreChar from difficult-to-recycle organic waste, which significantly improves the efficiency and stability of anaerobic digestion and wastewater treatment plants. CreChar can increase biogas yields by up to 15%, enabling plants to generate more renewable energy while reducing feedstock costs.

Carbogenics’ ambitions extend beyond CreChar. The company is continuing its collaboration with major water provider Scottish Water on the FilaChar project, which focuses on sustainable and green approaches to managing sewage sludge. Building on successful work in 2025, this ongoing partnership seeks to develop innovative carbon removal solutions that reduce environmental impact while supporting sustainability within the water industry.

This investment will enable Carbogenics to scale its operations across the UK and Europe while simultaneously introducing manufacturing in the US, a critical step in addressing the vast biomass waste streams prevalent in regions such as New Mexico. By converting agricultural and forestry residues into biochar, Carbogenics not only helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also produces a valuable soil enhancer, supporting climate resilience and agricultural productivity.

Ed Craig, CEO and Co-Founder of Carbogenics, said:

“We are truly grateful for the trust our investors have placed in us. This funding is not just capital; it’s a vote of confidence in our team, our technology, and our mission. We look forward to making strong progress in commercialising CreChar®, while innovating new products to enter fresh markets in the coming years.”

Cam Ross, CEO of Green Angel Ventures, said:

“Carbogenics’ approach to trapping and storing carbon for hundreds of years is exactly the sort of approach which our investors fully support. We’re very glad to be playing a part in this important milestone, to drive the company and its impact to the next stage.”
